About Borderline

Borderline Café, Shop & Gallery Borderline is a café, fair-trade handicraft shop & art gallery based in Mae Sot, Thailand, supporting Burmese migrants and refugees on the Thai-Burma border. We are currently working on our online shop, but for now, please view our latest catalog and email us your mail order!
 

We also invite you to host meetings and parties at Borderline! Our kitchen can provide a variety of Burmese foods and drinks, and space is provided in either our outdoor garden or the art gallery. Available during regular shop hours or in the evenings. Please email us to discuss your event needs.

A Diverse Perspective

On Tuesday, 22nd March 2011, Borderline gallery will present “A Diverse Perspective,” an exhibition featuring a multi-ethnic group of artists from Wide Horizons school in Mae Sot. This will be the first time these young artists will publicly display their work.

These mixed-media works explore the students’ feelings on human rights and community development, and represent their diverse perspectives on learning through life experience. Burmese, Karen, Karenni, Shan, Chin, Mon, Arakan, Muslim and Pa-O ethnicities will be represented in this exhibit, providing a glance into life and work along the border.

Join us for the opening reception of “New Beginnings” on Tuesday, March 22nd, 5-8pm. The exhibition continues until March 26th. Meet the artists and enjoy complimentary refreshments prepared by the Borderline Tea Shop.

New Beginnings

On Thursday, 3rd March 2011, Borderline gallery will present “New Beginnings,” an exhibition featuring women artists from various places. This special exhibition marks the 100th celebration of International Women’s Day.

To honor International Women’s Day, please join us for this collaboration of artists from Australia, Burma, Canada, Thailand, USA and the UK. Ethnic groups across Burma are represented, including Arakhan, Karen, Mon, Myo, Pa-O, and Shan.

Borderline Gallery encourages discovery and creative expression, and is proud to exhibit some of these artists in their first show.

Join us for the opening reception of “New Beginnings” on Thursday 3 March, 6-9pm. The exhibition continues until 17th, March 2011. Meet the artists and enjoy delicious refreshments prepared by the

REFLECTIONS

On Thursday, 3rd February 2011, Borderline Gallery will open “REFLECTIONS,” an exhibition by artist Win Htet. In his solo show, he presents many beautiful landscapes of Burma and portraits of Burmese people, using a variety of mediums such as watercolor, oil, acrylic and charcoal.

Win Htet has been a member artist at Borderline Gallery since the beginning, thus his strange inspirations and skills are very familiar to us. Although he has shown his artwork to his friends frequently in this past, this is only his second solo exhibition.

Win Htet is always eager to improve, and invites you to openly share suggestions and critiques of his new work. The exhibition opens on Thursday 3rd February 2011 from 6pm – 9pm, and continues until 16th February 2011.

Complimentary Burmese refreshments will be provided from Borderline Tea Shop.

POINTS

On Tuesday January 6, 2011, Borderline gallery will hold it’s first exhibition of the year by the Arakan artist Myat Thein Zaw. We named the exhibition “POINTS” and that is because the artworks that the artist shows us are about the different points of his inspirations.

In this art show the artist has expressed the abilities of his art skills and his intentions to his artworks with the mediums water color and acrylic.

We as the viewers will see his different art abilities and different styles of painting at his exhibition by using different methods and colors.

Borderline Gallery cordially invites you to meet the artist at our new exhibition. The opening reception will take place from 6pm to 9pm on 6th Jan 2011. The exhibition will be until 19th of Jan 2011.

Winter Dreams

Dreams may be signs of the future or reflections of our memories. For Burmese people, dreams in wintertime are particularly fantastic and random explorations of the mind.

Winter Dreams InvitationOn Thursday 2nd December 2010, Borderline gallery will open “Winter Dreams,” a new solo exhibition by the talented Burmese artist Htut Aung. In his art showcase, Htut Aung uses a variety of mediums and techniques to share his Winter Dreams with Borderline Gallery’s audience.

Borderline Gallery cordially invites you to meet the artist and discuss all our Winter Dreams at our new exhibition. The opening reception will take place from 6pm to 9pm on 2nd December 2010. The exhibition will be until 16th of December 2010.
