An exhibition and sale of paintings and drawings by Burmese refugees and exiles artists to raise money for victims of Cyclone
Nargis September 11, 2008, Snow City Café, Anchorage, Alaska USA.
Eyes on the Future is a fundraiser to fund emergency services for people inside Burma affected by the killer Cyclone Nargis which struck on May 2 and 3 left over 130,000 people dead or missing and 2.5 million homeless in Rangoon and Irrawaddy Divisions.
People lost their lives or their friends, families, children, mothers and fathers, their homes, their livelihood, their schools and their communities. They still have a future. You can help. Come to the exhibition and buy a piece of art ($50 to $500) or simply make a donation for whatever amount you can give.
The exhibition featured 44 pieces in oil, pastel, charcoal and watercolor. These paintings and drawings brought alive the culture, beauty, love, hard work and strife of these people. Images of the Nargis, the famous leg rowers of Inlet Lake, Buddhism, children working and playing, and families struggling and sharing together were all featured.
Our goal was to raise a minimum of $15,000 to support the efforts of the Emergency Assistance Team (EAT) that is now delivering aid to more than 180,000 cyclone victims in the affected areas.
Mae Tao Clinic founded in 1989 and directed by Dr. Cynthia Maung, has been designated to handle the funds for EAT. Funds collected were processed by Global Health Access Program a 501(c)(3) and went directly to EAT/Mae Tao Clinic.
Contributions may be sent to Linda Duck, 1328 West 12th Avenue, Anchorage, Alaska 99501 USA or made directly through the Mae Tao Clinic website.
